South Carolina FORTIFIED Roof incentives

South Carolina: no grant amount confirmed; tax credit ceiling $1,000; no discount percentage confirmed. Credit limits are read from the statute and repeated by IBHS. The statute never uses the word FORTIFIED, so whether your work qualifies is set by Department of Insurance regulations.

Steps and traps

How it works here

  1. The credit is for your legal residence (the property qualifies under section 12-43-220(c)).
  2. Qualifying fortification measures are set by Department of Insurance regulations, not listed in the statute.
  3. Ordinary repair or replacement of existing items does not count, so the cost must be the added fortification.
  4. Items bought with grant money under section 38-75-485 are excluded unless the grant was counted as your income.

Watch for

  • Both credits are limited per tax year; ask a South Carolina tax preparer how they stack with your return.
  • The sales-tax credit equals 6% of the purchase price of eligible property and stops at $1,500.
