Tips for photos the AI can actually use
Shoot in daylight. Step back far enough to fit the whole roof slope in the frame — closer shots miss the edges. Capture each visible slope: front, back, and both sides if accessible. Avoid photos taken straight down; a 30-45° angle from ground level shows the surface best.

RearQuestions About the Estimator
You upload 2–6 photos of your roof from ground level. Our AI analyzes each image to assess visible roof area, material type, and surface condition — including signs of wear, missing shingles, or potential storm damage. It combines that visual analysis with local cost data to produce a preliminary replacement cost range and a downloadable Roof Blueprint PDF.
It's a preliminary ballpark — not a contractor quote. The AI cannot measure your exact roof pitch or walk the surface, so the cost range it produces is meant to give you a realistic starting point before you speak with a roofer. Actual contractor quotes may vary based on local labor rates, decking condition, and specific materials you choose. Treat the estimate as a planning tool, not a binding price.
Yes. The AI Roof Estimator is completely free for homeowners. There's no subscription and no credit card required. We're paid by verified roofing contractors when they receive a qualified lead — your estimate has no cost to you.
You'll receive a Roof Blueprint PDF summarizing the AI analysis. At the same time, a single verified local contractor in your area is notified and will reach out — typically the same day during business hours. That contractor can schedule a proper on-site inspection and give you a real quote based on what they find in person.
Your photos are used only to generate your estimate and Roof Blueprint. They're kept private — never shown publicly, sold, or posted anywhere. Location and device metadata are stripped from each image on upload, so a photo can't reveal where you live beyond the city you tell us. The images are not shared with anyone other than the single local contractor matched to your request.
No obligation. Using the estimator or receiving a contractor contact does not commit you to any work. If you speak with the contractor and decide not to move forward, that's completely fine. The tool is here to help you make an informed decision — not to pressure you into a sale.
