How Verification Works
What the Verified badge on a contractor's profile actually confirms — and what it does not.
What "Verified" confirms
A Verified badge appears on a contractor's profile only after we have independently confirmed that their roofing license is active, checked against the official registry of the relevant state or, in Texas, the industry licensing program. A listing being present on PickARoofer is not itself an endorsement — the badge is the only signal that says we checked something.
How we check it
- We match the contractor's business name and location against the official public licensing registry for their state.
- We record the license number, its current status, and its expiration date exactly as the registry reports them.
- A contractor is marked Verified only on an exact match with an active license — an expired, revoked, or unmatched license does not get the badge.
- Every verified profile links back to the public registry so a homeowner can independently confirm the same record we checked.
Registries we check against
Verification is rolling out state by state. Where it is live, here is the registry we check:

In Texas, which has no state roofing license, the badge means we confirmed the contractor's RCAT license against the official registry of the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas — the industry licensing program. It does not by itself confirm insurance.
What "Verified" does not mean
- Not insurance. We do not confirm general liability or workers' compensation insurance as part of verification, in any state — including Texas. Where a contractor has separately provided a current Certificate of Insurance (COI), we note it on their profile as “Insurance on file.” Always ask any roofer for a current certificate of insurance yourself before signing.
- Not reviews. We do not generate or invent reviews, ratings, or review counts. Where we lack independently verified review data, we show none rather than invent it.
- Not an endorsement. A listing, verified or not, is not a recommendation. Confirm a contractor's license and insurance yourself before hiring.
No badge yet?
Verification is rolling out gradually, state by state. Most listed contractors are not yet verified, and the absence of a badge is not a mark against a contractor — only that we have not completed confirmation for that state yet. Ask any unverified contractor for their license number and check it yourself on their state's licensing board website.
