What Mississippi pays or discounts
| Incentive | Amount | What it says | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strengthen Mississippi Homes grant | up to $10,000 | The award, up to $10,000 of roof work, goes to the contractor. For 2026 the page limits applications to current Mississippi Windstorm Underwriting Association (MWUA) policyholders insured three consecutive policy years, chosen by lottery. | Mississippi Insurance Department: Strengthen Mississippi Homes 1 source give this figure |
| Insurance discount | up to 55% | IBHS says many Mississippi insurers discount FORTIFIED homes, some as high as 55% of the wind portion. The state page says discounts may apply and gives no figure. | IBHS FORTIFIED: financial incentives Mississippi Insurance Department (says discounts exist, no figure) 1 source give this figure |
IBHS says MWUA gives policyholders a free FORTIFIED endorsement. When a covered claim ends in a roof replacement, MWUA pays extra toward the FORTIFIED upgrade.
Steps and traps
How it works here
- A certified FORTIFIED evaluator first checks whether the home meets the minimum eligibility rules.
- You pick three contractors from the program's trained list and each bids on the work.
- The evaluator and the chosen contractor document the work, and the evaluator sends photos and papers to IBHS for audit.
- Funds go to the contractor after approval.
Watch for
- Condominiums, duplexes, mobile homes and manufactured homes are not eligible.
- The page warns not to apply unless you meet the MWUA rules; selection is by lottery.
