Steps and traps
How it works here
- Hire a FORTIFIED Home Evaluator before any roof work begins.
- Hire a program-approved contractor, who gives you the contract, final invoice and Form R-90157-B.
- The evaluator inspects at the end, and IBHS issues the designation certificate.
- Apply for the credit on Form R-90157 through LaTAP between January 1 and June 30 of the year after certification.
- Claim it on Form IT-540 with Code 466 on Schedule J, attaching the approval letter.
Watch for
- The home must be your primary residence with a homestead exemption, and not a condominium, mobile home or new construction.
- Expenses paid with Fortify Homes grant money cannot also be claimed for the credit.
- Evaluator, permit and inspection fees and general dumpster costs are not eligible expenses.
