We matched your request with a local roof leak repair contractor in Rockford. They will reach out once they have reviewed it.
A leak is rarely an emergency at the minute it starts, but it gets worse with every rain. Work through these in order.
Find where the water comes out and mark the edge of the stain with a pencil, so you can see whether it spreads. Open the attic hatch if you have one and look for wet insulation, dark rafters or a drip on a nail tip; the wet spot there is closer to the real hole than the ceiling stain is. Then line up a bucket and move on.
Ask for a temporary cover first and the permanent repair second: a tarp or sealed patch holds the water out while the roofer finds the cause. Get the scope in writing, and be wary of anyone who wants the full price in cash before any work starts. Rockford gets about 5.9 days a year with an inch of rain or more, so a leak left open will be tested again.
Let the area dry out. Wet insulation or drywall that stays damp for more than a day or two can grow mould, so open a window, run a fan and plan to cut out anything that will not dry.
Report the damage to your insurer in writing and keep every receipt for temporary repairs. A slow leak from old age is usually not covered; sudden damage from wind or hail often is.
Five usual sources, ordered by how strongly Rockford's own weather and housing record points at each.

Shingles go brittle, sealant dries out and a second layer hides the real condition of the deck. When leaks appear in several rooms, the roof may be at the end of its life, not just one spot.
In Rockford: 74.1% of homes here were built before 1980 and the median home dates from 1962. That is #28 of 209 cities we cover.
Water follows the metal around chimneys, vents, skylights and wall joints before it ever reaches a shingle. A stain that sits right under one of those points to the flashing or its sealant.
In Rockford: Rockford has about 96 freeze-thaw days a year, the expand-and-shrink cycle that pulls those joints apart. That is #42 of 209 cities we cover.
A hailstone can crack the mat under the granules without a visible hole. The roof sheds water for a while, then leaks weeks or months afterwards, often in the first hard rain of the next season.
In Rockford: Hail of 1 inch or larger fell on 31 days in the county's NOAA record; the largest stone was 3 inches.
Wind folds a shingle back and breaks its seal; the next rain goes under it. From the ground you may see a bare strip, a flapping tab, or granules and tabs in the yard after a blow.
In Rockford: NOAA logged 63 days with 58 mph or stronger thunderstorm wind in the county since 2014, and a peak gust of 96 mph.
Exposed nail heads, a worn pipe boot or a low-slope section only fail when a lot of water arrives at once. If the leak shows only in downpours, look there first.
In Rockford: 5.9 days a year bring an inch or more of rain here, out of 38.7 inches in total.
