Texas has no state roofing license. The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas (RCAT) runs a voluntary industry licensing program with a public contractor directory.

Five checks before you sign

  1. Ask for the license or registration number and look it up in the registry above. Match the exact business name, check that the status is active and read the expiration date.
  2. Ask for a current certificate of insurance (general liability and workers’ compensation) sent to you directly by the insurer or agent. PickARoofer does not verify insurance.
  3. Get a written contract with the scope, materials, total price, start date and warranty terms. Do not sign a blank or partly filled form.
  4. Check the permit. Ask who pulls it and confirm with your city or county building department that it was issued.
