Typical lifespans are published ranges for each material; real life depends on installation, ventilation and weather.
If insurance covers it, what do I pay?
Only if the claim is approved. The ACV math is a straight-line example over a 25-year life; insurers use their own schedules. Check your policy.
Has hail hit my roof since it was installed?
County-level hail reports from the NOAA archive the page uses; a county report is not proof of damage at your address.

Roof Leaking Right Now?
Do these three things in the next hour, then send your request below.
- Move valuables out from under the leak, put a bucket under the drip, and cut power at the breaker to any area where water is near an outlet or fixture — if you can do that safely.
- Stay off the roof. A wet or storm-damaged roof is a fall hazard, day or night — leave the climbing to a licensed contractor.
- Take dated photos and video of the damage, inside and out, before you clean anything up — insurance claims usually need this.
