A license shows a roofer is allowed to work. It does not show how well they work. Three things are on you before you sign:
- Insurance. Ask for a certificate of insurance with general liability and workers’ compensation, then call the insurer and confirm it is current.
- Warranty in writing. Get the workmanship warranty (years and what it covers) on the contract, separate from the shingle maker’s warranty.
- Recent local jobs. Ask for two addresses in Houston roofed in the last year and drive by.
